Post subject: The End of (not so much of) An Era
PostPosted: Mon May 24, 2010 6:25 pm
My displeasure with Blizzard and their leanings toward micro transactions have, as I said in my AFK post and other posts, done me in.

When they introduced their latest game impacting pay for access product I canceled both of my accounts.

Some of you may say that "it is only a little auction house access". I agree. But it is also functionality that would benefit me (or any other individual) in a game impacting way that they are making their customers pay for. Sure I can elect to not pay for it. But that doesn't change the point of it for me. When they introduced the Celestial Steed (and hinted at the AH premium services) I changed my accounts to monthly because I feared the writing I saw trying to come through on the wall. This is that next step. Will they go further? I have no idea. Do they have a line they ultimately will not cross? I would like to think so.

But the fact of the matter is that they have crossed the line that I personally drew. I am not someone who is going to sit and redraw the line, forgiving all their transgressions as they make them. Blizzard is a business after all. The only way to speak is with your wallet. And that is exactly what I am doing. I have no intention of ever giving them money again.

This does, of course, mean that I will no longer be leading you. I will say openly that it has been an honor and a pleasure to be your guild leader. I thank each and every one of you for having stuck around this long. For putting up with my shit. For forgiving my transgressions and mistakes.

It also means that we are done raiding as a guild. I only have my main account (with Bjornstern and Gorlen) through May 30th. And I am heading out of town Thursday night. That means that I only have two days left of raiding. So we shall do no more. I would rather everyone find their own way rather than lock you to raids that will not go very far.

The Numarra account is active until July 5th (It never even got to switch to monthly from the six month plan), so I will still be around. Handling a smooth transition to whatever we have after that.

I have no intention of dissolving the guild, but make no mistake - we will no longer be raiding as a guild. Or at least I won't be running with you. :) But you will have a home for as long as you want.

I will also keep vent and the website up for at least a while anyway. I will let you know plenty in advance before I take either down.

Thank you all again.

And an early goodbye, though you will still see me around. :)

- Jim
